Lebanon has been facing a profound socio-economic and political crisis in recent years, compounded by growing tensions along its borders, particularly in the south.

Since 23 September 2024, the country has entered a critical phase following the escalation of bombardments in cities such as Saida, Nabatieh, the Bekaa Valley and several neighbourhoods of Beirut.

The situation has led to large-scale displacement towards areas considered safer. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in temporary facilities, including public schools.
In response to this emergency, and thanks to the support of Inditex, we have adapted our operations to provide immediate and life-saving assistance. The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is distributing food baskets, hygiene kits, mattresses and other essential relief items. In addition, emergency shelters have been opened, particularly for migrants who have been excluded from government-run accommodation centres, and we are providing vital psychosocial support to both displaced people and humanitarian response staff.
The intervention provides a comprehensive response to the main needs of the Syrian refugee population from vulnerable communities in Bourj Hammoud, Bar Elias, and Baalbek, who face overlapping risks that undermine their safety, dignity, and long-term well-being. The project is structured around four areas of action: the management of formal and non-formal educational programs for children and adolescents; psychosocial support to prevent mental health issues; case management and awareness-raising on rights protection; and labor guidance and vocational training for adults, as well as training for small local enterprises.
