Education through radio in the schools of Fe y Alegría

A total of 33 Fe y Alegría schools have joined the “Ñañomoarandu Radio Rupive” radio education program to face the challenge of education from the distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. A task that we support through the EPGO III (which we have adapted to the context of the health crisis to continue ensuring the right to education) and which is allowing us to accompany a total of 8,210 students.

The alternative has arisen because of the fact that many students cannot access virtual platforms due to several limitations, especially economic reasons, as they do not have the necessary resources to join the classes because of the lack of Internet access or a stable band coverage.

There are three key elements in order to carry out this education program through radio. First, the establishment of a specific schedule for each school level; secondly, the delivery of a weekly booklet to be able to follow the classes, complete the tasks and carry out a self-assessment; and thirdly, the family support that students receive from home.

The methodology to be followed is based on PREBIR (Rural Program for Intercultural Bilingual Education by Radio), an education program for youth and adults, approved by the Ministry of Education and Sciences of Paraguay, and which in this case, Fe y Alegría and its teachers have adapted to the children.
